“But yes sometimes I am the art too” – Arvida Byström, 2018, Instagram
As a conceptual artist my work challenges societal attitudes towards pornography, female sexuality and feminist thought within the framework of Western liberal democracy. The art is intended to be thought-provoking and controversial. It engenders an awkwardness of conversation whilst both supporting gender equality and exposing the irony of the current gender debate format. I hope to provoke a wider feminist debate and its meaning to the millennial generation. My invitation to the viewer is to recognise the satire and humour in my art and enjoy its playfulness and intimacy.
